“For much of the last decade, dissent was the highest form of patriotism,” Sen. Mitt Romney told the panel of experts convened in Los Angeles to discuss racism. “I was a racist in 2012, but it’s 2020 now, and people really should just shut up and listen to someone who has moved beyond being a dog-abusing, woman-murdering, tax-cheating racist who would put black people back in chains given half a chance.”
“Would anyone ever use the term ‘black fragility’ without being told to shut up?” asked white black activist Shaun King. “Of course not. Likewise, ‘gay fragility’ is forbidden from our national conversation, as is ‘Hispanic fragility,’ ‘transgender fragility,’ and ‘female fragility.'”
“I agree wholeheartedly with Senator Romney and Mr. King,” said author Robin DiAngelo, whose best-selling book “White Fragility” furthered the national conversation on race. “We’ve moved past dissent, and shut up is once again the new highest form of patriotism.”
“I’ve reclaimed my voice by understanding that other people just need to shut up,” Romney agreed. “And that’s also why I’m voting for Joe Biden in November.”
