Washington (CNN) — Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang has joined CNN as a political commentator so he can suppress news about other candidates during the upcoming 2024 election.
Experts say the move to suppress other voices could be motivated by revenge, or it could just be a typical strategy often employed by Democrats.
During his 2020 run, Yang accused MSNBC of “systematic bias” against his campaign. “MSNBC is trying to suppress and minimize my campaign because there are certain other candidates that they might favor,” Yang said. “They think we need them. We won’t after I start working for CNN.”
The dearth of debate speaking time for Yang was not an isolated case. An analysis by Business Insider concluded that Yang “had the least amount of speaking time … compared to how much we would expect him to speak given his polling numbers.”
During his first CNN broadcast from New Hampshire, Yang said he was “excited to be able to suppress information about other candidates in a variety of ways as a paid political commentator” and repeated the comment in a tweet.
