Levar Burton gets QB slot as Kaepernick workout misfires

Actor Levar Burton — famous for his role as African slave Kunta Kinte in “Roots” — was hired by the Atlanta Falcons after Colin Kaepernick’s private workout fell flat.

The 62-year-old Burton, who wore a “Colin Kaepernick” t-shirt to the signing ceremony, was added to the Falcons roster as the third-string quarterback behind Matt Schaub.

Quarterback coach Greg Knapp said he was most impressed by Burton’s mobility and his ability to read plays.

“Honestly, given their age difference, I thought Levar didn’t stand a chance against Kap,” Knapp said, “but his workout was just better in every area.”

Head coach Dan Quinn said Kaepernick should probably continue his quest to impress the goddess Nike.

“I’m pretty sure Colin can defeat corporate greed and racism with Nike’s help, but he won’t be doing it as QB of the Falcons,” Quinn said.
