BEAVERTON, OREGON (AP) — Police have issued an arrest warrant for Democrat Congressman Elijah Cummings after he was allegedly caught on camera burgling someone’s car at the Sorrento Bluff Apartments in Beaverton.
When police contacted Mr. Cummings about the video, he said, “That’s not me. That’s Congressman John Lewis.”
Representative Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.) was outraged that Cummings would mistake Lewis for a common thief after police mistook a common thief for Cummings.
“I’ve seen it even on the House floor,” said Tlaib. “People calling Elijah Cummings ‘John Lewis,’ and John Lewis ‘Elijah Cummings,’ and they’re totally different people. But when Cummings does it to Lewis we should probably rethink this whole facial recognition bull***t.”
The woman who owns the car didn’t want to be identified because Cummings and Lewis are still both out there, but said she is “totally happy” she bought the camera. “I just kept playing back the video because it was just so funny,” she said.
