Study: ‘Deepfake’ actors just as phony as real human actors

Cambridge, Mass. (AP) — A study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has unexpectedly found that digital actors created by computers are just as phony as real human actors.

“Real actors may appear to be logical, caring human beings, but they’re not,” said MIT scientists who conducted the study. “Our research shows that they do and say things that are just as absurd as the deepfakes.”

“Deepfake” technology uses videos and images of a specific individual to generate a virtual model of their face that can be manipulated and superimposed on another person’s body.

By the year 2030, the possibilities will “bend reality in terrifying ways,” according to MIT. Many of these “doctored” video fakes will demand anti-human policies so absurd that everyone will believe the fakes are real Hollywood actors.

“The worst outcome might be that deepfake Socialist actors will say only Nazis support the First Amendment and every Democrat voter will believe them,” said the study.

But the threat of genuine civic crisis doesn’t stop there. According to the study, “people will lose faith that anything they see is real.”

For instance, reporters and news anchors could say that Republicans are putting children in concentration camps. Democrats could say anti-fascist feminism justifies erasing Jews from the Women’s March. And public figures could be shown performing the sex acts they denied but we all knew they performed anyway.
