Mayor Pete cancels campaign, schedules ‘healing visits’ to every city with gun violence

Mayor Pete Buttigieg cancelled his 2020 presidential campaign after a shooting in Toronto injured four people during the Raptors’ NBA championship celebration.

“I know that whenever an indent like this happens, there is tremendous hurt that can come about, that the city will be hurting,” Buttigieg acknowledged at a late-night news conference in Toronto.

“That’s why I’m suspending my campaign immediately. The journey will be difficult. But generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when the rise of gun violence began to slow and our planet began to heal.”

Buttigieg has cancelled his appearances in all 50 states, Canada, and Mexico. A spokesman did not say when the Democratic presidential candidate would cancel the remainder of his world tour.
