American Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) — who once “blasted” U.S. foreign meddling while on his honeymoon in the Soviet Union — has been charged with election tampering by the Democratic Party of Moldova.
Sanders, a self-avowed Socialist who leans Communist, allegedly helped the Socialist Party gain 35 seats in the Moldovan Parliament, handing the ruling Democratic Party a defeat and throwing the country’s political system into “paralyzing gridlock.”
Vladimir Plahotniuc, whose Democratic Party took 30 seats, said his platform of expanding social welfare payments and infrastructure projects was undermined by Socialists who said the plans were unaffordable.
A coalition of the Dignity and Truth Platform and the Party of Action and Solidarity campaigned against what they called “Democratic Socialist oligarchs” and took third place with 26 seats.
None of the parties have accepted the election results, a deadlock that everyone blames on the “meddling Communist from Vermont.”
