CNN buys ‘Empire’ from 20th Century Fox to promote more fictional hate crimes

CNN used Don Lemon’s “Tonight” show last night to announce its purchase of “Empire” from 20th Century Fox Television.

“We understand the importance of the Jussie Smollett case, so we’re expanding into the prime time drama space for audiences that share our view of hate crimes in America,” said CNN President Jeff Zucker.

Lemon said the move will allow CNN to promote fictional hate crimes to a wider audience.

“Until now, CNN has aimed its promotion of fictional hate crimes to a narrow audience, mostly in airports,” said Lemon. “That’s old school. We’re really excited that we can now take advantage of the pain and anger of racism in a way that no one has done before.”
