The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration says the pilot of an Aeromexico flight from Mexico City landed on the wrong runway at San Francisco International Airport Friday morning as a protest against Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
The pilot is reported to have said “Trump hates Mexicans” and “imperialist dogs don’t tell us what shithole runways to land on” as he was handcuffed and taken into custody by SFO airport police.
Aeromexico Flight 668 was given clearance to land on Runway 28R at SFO Airport, but the Boeing 737-800 landed on the runway next to it, 28L.
Air Traffic Controllers who ordered the Aeromexico flight to abort the landing one mile from the airport heard sounds of a struggle and various expletives in Esperanto from the cockpit before the plane landed on the empty runway.
The co-pilot, who was transported to a local hospital with head and neck trauma, reportedly said something about a “Resistance Air” movement among international airline pilots, but those reports have not been confirmed.
The FAA plans to interview the pilots as part of their investigation. Aeromexico has not yet commented on the incident.
